Dan McGinn’s Custom Retro Diner

Dan is a well-known figure in Jefferson County, WV, having lived and worked here forever!  Dan approached BarsandBooths to see if we could provide our custom services as he wanted to build a commercial project to not only house his fabulous lifelong collection of vintage items, but also to provide a beautiful, enchanting space for his employees.  We jumped at this opportunity!

Once we had the opportunity to examine Dan’s blueprints, an added feature is that he was using the same architect that we have used on multiple projects.  So, in essence, we all knew everybody.  At the end of our planning sessions, our contributions were going to be directed at creating an authentic 50’s Diner, named after Dan’s most special doggie…Gracie.  Thus this project became, “Gracie’s Diner”.

BarsandBooths was asked to create the custom signage that framed the project, and also provide all diner furniture, as well as all custom work for the diner kitchen/bar/back bar/appliances.  Red is always a very dynamic color so using that base, along with a contrasting white for appliances, we were able to create a working diner that Dan was pleased to add to the scope of work for this major project.  The idea of creating a Texaco service station, a “Gracie’s Diner”, and much, much more, became a very exciting project for us, and we jumped right in!

Dan’s office building would also house an original railway car, and that required that the entire building had to be built around this car.  It was craned into place, and the building was then built around the car.  Amazing!  Dan is a real visionary, and we are so proud that we were able to work with him to create his dream office/play building.  When looking at “perks” for working with any company, not too many would be able to offer Dan’s vision.

Thank you Dan for partnering with BarsandBooths for this fabulous project!  We will remember you and your project forever.
